I had a meeting in the late afternoon at the church on Friday and since we hadn't had a chance to go for a walk that day I figured Sophie and I would just walk there. The building is about a 1/2 mile from our house (which really comes in handy at 8:57am every Sunday when we go flying out the door for our 9am start time), so I thought the walk would be great. I must have forgotten to screw my head on all the way that morning, though, b/c none of the following things occured to me until we were about 28 steps from the church:- it was COLD outside, and also rather windy
- Sophie had neither sweater nor hat
- I had neither sweater nor hat
- it was going to be dark by the time my meeting was over
- no sun in the sky = even colder weather
In those last 28 steps to the church I realized that I couldn't even get a ride home from someone after the meeting b/c I didn't have Sophie's carseat (took the umbrella stroller on our walk). Sophie was, of course, in 7th heaven being outside, but the poor baby's hands were freezing by the time we got there and I didn't want to think about how cold they'd be by the time we got home after dark. Luckily, no one was at the church yet, so I quickly decided to hightail it back home and drive back over -- with all manner of sweaters and hats in case the car should manage to breakdown en route. Before re-tracing our steps, I unfolded the 1 blanket I'd thought to bring to put over Sophie's legs, and wrapped her up in it as best I could. Sophie just sat there so contentendly, thumb in mouth. It was too cute, so I - of course - took some pics. Here's my red-nosed baby ready to zoom back home. At least it was good exercise!

Sophie is sure cute. Matt thinks going for walks will ill-prepared children makes them TOUGH.
