We started a new chapter of life this week. It's called Public School. Sophie started Kindergarten on Tuesday and couldn't have been more excited. My mom sent me a pic from my first day of Kindergarten (waaaay back in the day - haha), so I thought I'd post it next to Sophie's first day of Kindergarten shot.

Before school...

coming out of school...

after school - and still smiling!
(but darn those shadows!!)
This week has been quite a brutal transition back to real life. We spent the last 2-ish weeks in Boston and oh, we could have stayed there for several more weeks!! We had a marvelous time seeing family and friends and visiting old stomping grounds and reminiscing like crazy. :) There are millions of pics, but here's just a couple for your viewing pleasure:

riding on a
TRAIN!!!
Travis thought he'd died and gone to heaven.
I thought I just might die on this outing (3 hot and tired kids downtown is no small task), but I was dying for them to see my beloved B-town, so ain't no mountain high enough. Thank goodness for Katy's stroller and Michelle's cheerfulness and help!!

the Make Way for Ducklings statue

Bridget and cousin Tyson got to check them out, too!

We watched and rode the Swan Boats!

We met up with some friends in Cambridge one day and I was so excited to see these places again, I kept taking all these ridiculous pictures from the car...
"Look, Bryce!!! It's the Citgo sign!!!!!!!"

"...and the Pru!! And the Hancock tower!!!!!"
(did I mention I was super happy to be back in Boston??)

Lunch date at HBS with dear friends, Tim & Becky and fam
(their newborn baby didn't make it into this shot)
Tim, Bryce and I used to have weekly lunch dates with two other good friends when we all worked here. Tim is the only one still here - he's holding the fort down for us! I was just about out-of-my-mind excited to get lunch in Spangler Hall again -- I've been dreaming about that salad bar since we bought our tickets to Boston, and it did not disappoint!

in front of Baker Library, where I worked while in Boston

So, as you can tell, we had a wonderful time, but people, I have not even GOTTEN to the family reunion yet! I tried, I really did try, to post just a few pictures, but I'm sorry - it's impossible! The week was full of super fun activities and family time and we loved being together with everyone. A HUGE thank you to my wonderful in-laws for doing the lion's share of work to make this happen. During the reunion, there was lots of:
Cousin Time

Science Experiments

Awesome games that I never would have thought up myself

(Travis trying to capture a balloon!)

pictures galore with these 10 people, their parents, spouses and children

a trip to the Fire Station

more awesome science experiments

2 trips to the beach
(and are you DYING over that shark towel?!?! more awesome grandma-ness!)

a Tea Party!

Meals on the porch

...with the new family stars hanging above us!
(My super amazing mother-in-law
made these stained glass window stars. Each person got to select one to represent them, and then we wrote our name and the date we joined the family on it. They look so cool all hanging together from the ceiling!!)

There were so many other awesome things that happened that week, including the carnival, making pet rocks, the Harbor Boat tour, a family temple trip, a color-me-mine cardboard house for the kids, homemade ice cream sundaes, Grandma & Grandpa's Wonder Emporium (COOLEST thing EVER!!!!), etc. etc. etc. Can you blame us for wanting to stay there forever?!? But our plane tickets were non-refundable, plus there was something about me teaching a seminary class and Sophie started school... so home we came. Thankfully, our fabulous friends, the Woodfords were there to soften the blow of coming back, though Bridget's face in the picture below sort-of sums up the state of things (poor thing - we found out a couple days later that her ear drum ruptured!!).

Anyway, so back to reality and laundry and lesson prep. Thank goodness we have these pictures to look at and REAL yellow-eye beans to eat tomorrow! Thanks for a wonderful trip, LaPs!! (and kudos to anyone who actually made it through to the end of this post!!)

What a fun trip. That reunion makes 10 kids actually seem fun! Sounds like you had a great time!
Looks awesome! Those family reunion activities look fabulous--and those stars? Amazing! I'm going to have a heart attack when Eva goes to preschool. Really, I will. Sophie looks adorable and grown up--crazy to think it doesn't seem like that long ago that we were watching American Idol in our 1 bedroom apt. family room!!!
Hiya Weese. It must have been the day for eternal posts, ehhhhh??? Well, you officially made me homesick for Boston too. And the Citgo sign. And even Spangler's salad bar. Although I'd settle for the Kebab Factory or Sugar and Spice. Or even Anna's. :) Looks like a fun reunion! Post more pics!!! Especially of Squidgey Bridge.
I miss Boston!!! Thanks for the tour!
Oh my gosh there are so many great pictures here... I can't decide if my favorite is Trav with the fireman hose or Soph at the tea party. Seriously hilar. And I love every pic with Riget in it.
Sounds like you had a wonderful end of summer! Sophie looks so excited for school! Your family reunion looks awesome~ we are planning a big one over Christmas and I am trying to gather ideas~ would you give me a little more details of the games, experiments, anything else fun you did (I'm not creative enough to come up with my own ideas)
I didn't know you were heading to Boston - looks like such a fun trip. Hope Kindergarten goes well for Sophie and good luck with Seminary!
Gotta get a hold of your pictures!!!
Especially theone of the balloon hunt - it's the best capture of the event - ours shows how crowded that room was, yours shows the activity!!
Our house is always open. We miss you, too.
Come on back!
We're trying to find someone to house sit for us for a few months/years in the not-too distant future! :)
I LOVE the pic of you and your dad!!! And that Sophie is too precious!
I miss it too. It definitely was too short. I think I could have stayed another month. I LOVE Boston amd being around family!! I enjoyed our extra week together! Happy seminary-ing!
Have you realized your "new year" is in sync with the school year and not the calendar year?!
Ahhhh, yes.
