Again!!

Whenever we do something that Sophie likes, she asks us to repeat it ad infinitum simply by saying, "again." Usually it involves throwing her, or some other sort of physical activity that we literally cannot continue doing.

So what does this have to do with my post? Well, we went skiing today and Lisa probably got sick of hearing ME say this over and over to her. Let's get one thing straight though - this is only my second time skiing. The first time was on perhaps my favorite scout activity ever when I was maybe 13. Though I have gone water skiing (thanks Darci) and wake boarding (thanks Ray & Kim) during the interim.

First of all, a huge shout out to Alta and their ski free after three deal. They open one of their lifts to all skiers from 3pm until when they close (officially 4:30 but really 5). They have a deal on ski rentals too (only $10 after 3). But we discovered they have a bunny hill that is free all day so next time we'll come even earlier to let Lisa warm up on the bunny slope and hopefully go down the mountain by 3pm. Should I even acknowledge that these trips were made possible by the MBA program giving us 3 days off for recruiting?

We tried to go yesterday but the cops shut down the road for an hour in Little Cottonwood Canyon, so we had to turn around and all we got was this picture and a wonderful dinner with Marci.

Seeing how bummed I was, Lisa said: "Again!" So we came back today.

Here's an excited couple getting ready to head out.

As the expert in the relationship (see the previous comment), it was up to me to teach Lisa all my skills. While I was amazed how quickly my 1 day of experience came back to me, I fear I was a useless instructor. All I was really good at was saying, "Again" every time Lisa attempted but fell down. (This would be the part that has the direct correlation with Sophie)

Lisa let me sneak off after 45 minutes (i.e. she begged me to go) so that I could get in a run down the mountain. It was a blast! I debated about a second run but thought it best to head back to my student to see how her practice was going and we spent the rest of the time trying to get her down the hill without falling.

I took a video of her last run of the day when she finally made it! This is more a testament to her perseverance than my instruction, just in case you doubted that.

So by the end of the day, both of us were happy and saying "Again!" and plotting when we could come back so Lisa could graduate to the mountain.

PS Uncle Bruce - you going to come out or not?

Hmmm. I probably could have gone with you today. Let me know when you come again and I'll go with you!

Good job, Lis!
I did a little bit of skiing in my teen years but not on UT type mountains!

YAY!!! I have a very similar story from last weekend, Lis!!! An eager husband and little bit scared wifey. Only we did NOT get any deal on the trip, so I went down the very steep, narrow & crowded bunny hill for about 1 hour before wasting the rest of the day there and having to go down the mountain! Scary!! It's fun, but the tricky part was stopping. and mom...you've been skiing!?!?

LEESE - YOU LOOK LIKE A PRO! How are your muscles feeling today? I told Jake I'd send him up to go skiing with you before you leave. How about that?

Good job! You know, I have lived in UT my whole life and have never been skiing! So, I am SUPER impressed with your accomplishments! Also, Bryce, pretty impressive that you have not been skiing much, but could video tape while you went down the mountain!! IMPRESSIVE! I would hit someone for sure!!!

Your blog is one I check fairly often cuz I love it! About time I commented, right? Your pie plate reminds me of the day when I used to paint actual pie crusts on pies for birthday desserts. Ask my siblings about that. I love Sophie's singing, too, "for this love, la la la la..." Too cute!! And Travis is a Nathan clone. As far as down-hill skiing goes, if you don't learn when you're young, forget it! I'd like to try cross-country again at some point.
