I have been begging Bryce to go to West Virginia pretty much from the day we moved here. Not really sure why, I just wanted to check it out and see if it really is as wild and wonderful as all those radio commericals say it is! Plus, that gets me one state closer to having been in every state in the U.S. :)
Soooo, this weekend we went to
Harpers Ferry in West Virginia! Wooho!! It was very fun. And very hot. 92 degrees to be exact. Phew! I'm not sure poor little Sophie new what hit her! Even in the shade 92 degrees really gets to you. Anyway, we had a lovely afternoon touring around. This place reminded me a bit of the
Knotts Berry Farm set up of an old mining town - or
Nauvoo, too, only without people and demonstrations in each of the buildings. There were all these buildings that you could go in that were set up like a general store, police station, tailor's shop, etc. and see what it would have looked like. So we saw Main Street, abolitionist
John Brown's fort, and lots of artifacts from the time. Very cool. Bryce was in 7th heaven. Some pics:
This building is built right into the side of the cliff behind it.

One of the highlights of the day was getting ice cream. Considering the heat, I think it was a highlight for probably 99% of the people at Harpers Ferry that day. The line at the ice cream place was around the block! Anyway, have you ever seen a cone this enormous??? It was HUGE. And we ate every single bite. :) Even Sophie got in on the action. Poor little girl - she looks like she is about ready to die of the heat in this pic...

Lisa -- where'd you get your cute red shirt?!
Lovely! Hey, I'm curious. When is Bryce going to officially announce (and post) his decision on grad school? I'm dying here!
what a fun outing! And I love your red top -- sooo cute!
What a fun trip and don't you love that everyone comments about your shirt- very cute! You look hot in the blog!
Wow! I'm jealous you've been to West Virginia... I wanted to go sooo bad the last time I was in DC, but alas it wasn't in the stars for me for then. Someday...
I confess, I too was noticing you're cool shirt!
Lis, the shirt's the story in this blog!! It is darling.
Sophie looks like she can tolerate your trips in the heat. Who couldn't with a cone THAT size!
I love Harper's Ferry! You got a lot cooler pictures than we ever got there. Also, I am TOTALLY BUMMED that we never got the ice cream there. PS, I like the shirt, too!
Wow - thanks everyone, for the compliments on my shirt. It's one of my faves -- gets a lot of wear these days.
And Ellen, I got it at my most favorite store in the whole entire world... Starts with a "T" and ends in an "arget." I LOVE that place!
Ditto... it is a WAY cute shirt. That must be the one you were telling me about a while ago. The pic in my head was much different. Soph is so cute by the way.
